Why is nail fungus a dangerous disease?
Do you know how many people will get a yeast infection in 2025? There were 55,000 people in Dhaka last year. 31,000 of them had excessive sweating on their feet. This is more than half of all cases. Nail fungus affects our toenails and enters the bloodstream, spreading throughout the body. The fungus destroys our body from the inside and affects all organs. Tiny spores attach to internal organs and multiply, causing the development of pathology. Consequently, vital organs are also affected by the infection. This means that the body is rotting from the inside. Anyone who suffers from nail fungus is susceptible to these risks. Frequent colds weaken the immune system, and stress adds to the terrible picture.
For this reason, I consider nail fungus to be an extremely dangerous disease, responsible for many ruined lives throughout the country.
Why don't specialists treat this disease?
Firstly, many users do not consult a specialist at all, because they underestimate the danger of this disease. If you do consult an expert, it is actually too late. Often, victims notice changes on their feet or toes. Of course, you recognize the drugs that increase resistance to this disease and improve its condition. Unfortunately, the population is not patient enough (for the sake of strength) and skips examinations, which is why the fungus spreads unnoticed. Fungal diseases require constant monitoring, and few people know about the possibilities of examining internal organs. I could tell you about other meetings, but I would probably prefer to dwell on those where the danger is especially obvious.

Sometimes it would even be better if a person stayed at home instead of going to a specialist in a hospital. We are forced to hire unqualified staff because we suffer from a shortage of personnel. Of course, the staff are qualified, but they have very little experience and a lot of responsibility. Older experts are retiring or simply dying, and young specialists do not have the opportunity to gain experience and knowledge. Medicine is currently under great pressure, and there is simply no time to properly treat each patient. I would like to see more qualified medical staff, but this is very difficult to implement.
Is the high incidence of fungal infections in our region a consequence of the inexperience of specialists?
This is certainly one of the reasons, but not the only one. There is also a shortage of truly effective drugs. Pharmacies like to sell what they have in stock, but this, unfortunately, does not help much. Old medicines are useless, and even new medicines promise miracles, but, unfortunately, they do not give anything. Prescription drugs aren’t much better. While they temporarily relieve symptoms, often the liver or stomach is so badly infected that it results in really negative health side effects. Most medications do not treat fungus properly. They relieve the symptoms, while the fungus remains in the body and causes suffering to the patient.
The situation has not improved in private clinics. Usually inexperienced specialists work there, who know very little about diseases and treatment methods. They have one goal: to get as much money as possible from the help, but there is no real interest in helping them.
What should people do? As a specialist in the field of fungal diseases, how would you solve this problem?
Of course, I am not sitting idly by. Unfortunately, I cannot solve this problem. This is the task of universities. I cannot train new experts. Therefore, I see big changes in the near future. In other regions, the problems are very similar. We are all in the same boat.
And yet there is a glimmer of hope. Some discoveries help fight nail fungus. Dhaka is taking part in a major project to test an innovative product that fights nail fungus and can eliminate fungal infections in the body.
